YANKTON, S.D. (KCAU) — One person is dead after a plane crashed into a Yankton County bean field Wednesday morning.

The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that first responders were called around 7:48 a.m. near the intersection of 449th Avenue and 298th Street, about three miles southwest of Irene, for a plane crash. Responders arrived to the scene to find one person dead.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time.

and privately owned crashed and was destroyed killing its lone pilot in Yankton County, South Dakota, USA.
Flightaware shows the aircraft leaving from
Sioux Falls Airport and heading southwest but
only being airborne for a few minutes before
the trace stopped a small number of miles away.
The aircraft came down in an open bean field
where it caught fire and was destroyed.
Local Police and Firecrews arrived at the scene
shortly afterward, firecrews extinguished the
fire only to discover the lone pilots remains
inside, he was declared dead at the scene.
He was recovered and removed by the County
Coroners, his identity is unknown at present.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause
as no mayday or communication was sent
from the aircraft prior to the accident.
