Title: Mini airbus????
Post by: moto400ex on September 18, 2007, 12:19:13 AM
I was listening to LAX tower at about 1115 central time i heard the controller notify another pilot of a mini airbus ahead?  What is a mini airbus?  The pilot responded to the traffic as looking for the mini bus?

They can't. They have to indicate the exact aircraft type they are following on final. If they said it was an E170, it would be an Embraer or Regional Jet or something similar; As we know, Airbus doesn't make Embraer jets, so it can't be that.

That aircarft is an Embraer ERJ-190/Q, a 93 pax twin-jet owned and operated by Air Canada, one of a fleet of 45.
Except for the difference in size, it looks almost identical to the Airbus 320, a 150 pax twin-jet also owned and operated by Air Canada.

According to Wikipedia the A318 (a shortened shortened A320) is known as "mini Airbus"

Yes, it was an Air Canada. For the record, it was Air Canada Flight ACA558 from Vancouver to LA (CYVR-KLAX), an ERJ-190 - arrived 0422Z.
I think the controller wasn't too sure of the type - she first stated 'Airbus', then said 'minibus'.

I hear quite often - not exactly in the air. More or so guys on Local or Ground. Though I've heard Mini-Airbus, Jungle Jet, Echo 170/145. Nothing else in the industry referred to as a Mini Airbus except for an E Jet so that has to be it.

Thank's my ERJ 170; ERJ 190 type rating doesn't say on it who makes the the airplane I fly for a living. Now I know its not made by Airbus. Oh and btw when you heare me tell approach that I have the "Mad Dog" in sight there isn't really an angry dog in the air.

Embraer is a Brazilian airplane manufacturer.

They make the ERJ lines. (135/145/170/190/195) and their sister bizjets.
