LAX emergency landings
« on: January 31, 2019, 06:55:43 PM »
There have been multiple emergency landings due to planes being hit by lightning during departure from LAX. If anyone has any audio that they could send to VASAviation1@gmail.com that would be appreciated.

I heard one this morning around 8:55am PT (GMT-8) with a Compass Airline E170. Should be in the 1630-1700Z or 1700-1730Z archive. They were on final for 7R at the time.

EDIT: Not sure of the time for these, but JBU324 was also struck on departure, plus SWA1816 from KLAX-KPDX was struck on departure, and diverted to KOAK.

If you check those flights from today at FlightAware and their scheduled departure, you can cross that check with the LiveATC archive and get the right time they would have departed. That should get you everything.

EDIT #2: SWA1816 was at 9:25am PT; the 1700-1730Z archive should have it. JBU324 departed at 10:10am PT; the 1800-1830Z feed should have those, so that for the tower and departure feeds should should get you everything.

My bad. I should have been more specific. Flight involved was CPZ6048. Lightning strike was reported in at the 26:30 mark of the 1630Z Final feed. Would have been on a 10-15 mile final for 6L.

No worries, thanks for the time stamp. Yeah I was searching through the tower audio.
