KBOS wind shear go arounds
« on: March 14, 2010, 10:37:49 PM »
Just like JFK yesterday. Today, 3/14,  was the same at BOS.
Lets see, winds from 060 @ 20+ to 40+, landing rwy 15. I'd go around too!

Does anyone know why they were using 15R instead of 4R?

from the ground stop that was issued yesterday, a departing Airbus 380 broke the runway lights on 4R.  I am assuming it was the Airbus 380 that diverted to Boston on Saturday from JFK as the local news reported an Air France jet diverted (http://wbztv.com/local/flights.diverted.logan.2.1559441.html).  Sounded like a very rough ride into Logan last night.

From FAA GS:

IMPACTING CONDITION: EQUIPMENT / OUTAGE
COMMENTS: RUNWY 4R CENTER LIGHTS FAILED WHEN AN A380 DEPARTED.  BOS TRANSITIONING TO RUNWY 15 FOR ARRIVALS AND DEPARTING RUNWY 9. ZBW IN THE HOLD AT ALL FIXES WHILE TRANSITION OCCURS.

on the subject of the A380, here is a video recorded by my mom (who was on board) going missed at JFK before diverting to BOS
