Solo student has an 'open mic' moment at Smyrna
« on: August 21, 2020, 03:44:18 PM »
I really feel for this poor gal.  A student on a solo mission from KMBT down to KMQY in N94609, a C152, began to lose her confidence after the tower gives her a 360 on approach, and ends up having ... a bit of a meltdown ... over an open mic.

WARNING: the language is quite ... colorful ... and definitely NSFW (unless you're working from home!)

A few extra minutes at the end of the clip (after she clears the runway) show what was happening on Ground frequency while the 'stuck mic' was happening on Tower.

There's nothing wrong with saying "student pilot" following the callsign on readback when on solos. Its possible the controller would have been a bit more sympathetic and helpful with the instructions. The situation of a student getting overwhelmed on a solo can become overwhelming as it is.  :-(
