KSMF recently received some new approach/departure plates. I have been hearing a lot of complaints about arrivals being ridiculous on the KMHR - NORCAL feed. The clip attached is AAL1763 having a difficult time with the name of the departure 'SCTWN TWO'
Pilots have much more to worry about than the names of those charts.. I mean, pronounce them, for sakes!
SCTWN = Sac Town
FTHIL = Foothill
Those are obvious.. Only locals would know:
RVRCT = River Cat, named after the Sacramento River Cats, farm team to the SF Giants.
As far as STARs go, they forgot their history.
SUUTR = Sutter. Anyone remember where gold was discovered, and by who?
SLMMR = Slammer. Where was that live album that Johnny Cash made?
Not too much rocket science to figure those out..
