Title: KSFO near miss

Advance to about 5 minutes and 10 seconds into the stream.  You'll hear the local controller clear Republic ("Brickyard") 4921 for takeoff on 1L.  He then deals with having traffic cross 28L and apparently either forgot about Skywest 5741 landing on 28R or didn't realize that it was too close for him to safely clear Republic 4921 on 1L.  When he does realize there's a problem, you can hear shouting in the background as he says "Skywest 5741! Hold! Hold! Hold!"  The Republic E170 was able to take off and apparently missed the Skywest E120 by 300 feet--one of the closest incursions on the crossing runways at KSFO in recent memory.

It may be that some of the distraction was a Cessna (N298CA) that was transitioning through the Class B airspace around KSFO.  Later, (as a new controller takes over the local position) the pilot of the Cessna is heard to say "I knew you guys were in trouble back there."

Scary clip, really. Just looking at the airport diagram for SFO is frightening; those guys always have to be on top of their game.

The link posted above to ABC video didn't work so I searched the story on their website, it also had a video attached (not sure if that was the same as posted above).

Partisanship has it a new low today...in the video the reporter refers to the "Republican Airlines" jet... :lol:

Also they referance the ATC tapes from the accident but quote it as saying "28 right, clear to land -- 30 right clear to land, we have both aircraft in sight."

Ahhh the media. :mrgreen:
