Looks like 1 fatality at this point, RIP.

I heard airport rescue 6 responding, how soon for the locals to get to the scene and what exactly is rescue 6? I'm assuming a crash truck of some sort....what kind of staffing does it have? I know the crash truck at BDR is not manned and the airport ops guy jumps into it as needed, not sure the procedure at OXC.

I'm not sure who mans Rescue 6. Oxford Volunteer FD is just down the road so they respond quickly to the airport.

This video shows a good shot of the power lines and substation where I believe the crash occurred, at the 2:58 mark.

The power lines are right off the approach end of runway 36, and marked with obstruction lights during the night, though an on glideslope display from the PAPI will keep you clear.

This is a real tragedy and my condolences go out to the victim's family. It is never great to hear about a fatal accident and even more so when it involves your home airport. My thoughts and prayers will be with the pilot's family and friends.

Yeah, with those visual aids, you just wouldn't think this could happen, aside from the mental lapses that we ALL have every once in a while. At least this tragedy sends a message that every time you let your guard down, you are taking a real risk.

Bill was one of THE most wonderful people you could ever know. I aspired to be as good as a man as he was.

Peace my friend.

I was flying past OXC at around 12:30pm this afternoon, one week to the day after accident described above.  Approach pulled me off my route to help look for a potentially downed airplane.  Not long after, an Army helicopter was able to help out, so they sent me on my way.

I listened to today's OXC tower archive, and I hear tower asking pilots if they're hearing an ELT, but nobody heard anything.

Does anyone know if anything bad transpired today anywhere near OXC?

From the Waterbury Republican American: http://www.rep-am.com/articles/2010/01/20/news/local/doc4b5740375d227099824704.txt

Police: Report of airplane crash in Roxbury unfounded

ROXBURY -- State police say a report of a plane crash in the woods off Davenport Road on the north side of town this afternoon is unfounded.

Police, firefighters and emergency medical crews were dispatched to the area of Davenport Road just south of the Washington line at 12:16 p.m. for a report that a small plane had crashed. The woman who placed the 911 call told authorities she saw a plane flying very low and circling, but that she did not see it crash.

Officials searched the area, but found nothing. Controllers at nearby Waterbury-Oxford Airport said they had no mayday calls from pilots in the area, and no reports that any plane had gone down. Authorities also checked with a pilot at the airstrip on the Roxbury-Woodbury line who said he would have heard a "ping" on his radio equipment if a plane had crashed in the area.

Firefighters were released from the scene around 12:35 p.m. after concluding no plane had crashed.
