Title: KLGB JBU 500 windshield Birdstrike (no damage)
Post by: echostar on June 30, 2014, 11:22:34 PM
I saw on my way home from class that a Jet Blue aircraft waved off its final at around 7:45pm cali time.
I checked the archive when I got home and it turns out they took a bird to the windshield.
fast forward to 6 minutes in.

Actually, it looks like JetBlue 500, which departed prior, struck the bird at midfield on takeoff.  No damage, but they reported it to Tower.  Tower advised UPS905 (waiting to depart) and JBU1635 (on approach) that he thought he saw a carcass on the runway.  UPS905 decided to wait, and JBU1635 decided to "do a lap and let you guys get that off..." That's certainly the go-around you saw.

Turns out the ops vehicle couldn't find anything after all.   I think it's funny how JBU1635 checks back in with Tower at 5:42 in the edited clip...

Clip starts about 5:10 into the archive file, when UPS905 checks in ready for departure.   Longer silences have been shortened, so it doesn't run in real time.  Edited clip length is 7:45.
