Title: KIAD - Gear Emergency - N211SK PA34 - July 4 0052Z
Post by: protonage on July 03, 2009, 11:44:06 PM
Approximately 21:52 EST on July 3rd at KIAD - Washington Dullus Airport

Twin piston piper seneca could not get a green light for his left main gear, he goes around for the 1R approach at dullus and attempts to get confirmation on the gear with a low approach on 1C.  Ground crew state it appears to be down and he comes back around for a visual on 1C and lands without incident.  Good job controllers and good job pilot being ahead of the game and asking the right questions and requests.  He did appear to loose sight of the 1C runway when coming back in for the landing, tower controller states he cannot clear him to land unless he has a visual on the runway.

Here's the flight paths:

Good find...  seems like a little more excitement than they bargained for on a july 4th evening flight... bummer that it was at night, and impossible to see ground for a landing in the grass... the only thing available for a lit appr was hard pavement...
