Title: Kennedy Tower- Of Strobes and Rabbits
Post by: ReverseThrust on April 13, 2009, 11:14:13 PM
Caught this clip on tower tonight-- a couple pilots in a tiff about strobe usage and then some rabbits on the runway.  I thought it worth posting...

Wascally Wabbits! Love it!
What was the tiff about earlier? One pilot was yelling at another for having strobes on early, then another said something but I didnt catch it... sounded like "ever read your FOM while crossing runways?" Not sure what that meant.

the one pilot was getting on the other for having his strobes on while taxiing-- generally considered unnecessary and bad form because it's irritating to aircraft around you.  However, many operators have aircraft flip on the strobes while crossing runways to increase visibility.  The second pilot alludes to this procedure in the Flight Operations Manual of his company.

I like this controller, he usually sounds cheerful and jokes around a bit. Makes for fun listening!

Hrm...not sure I've ever heard of a rabbitstrike. That'd be interesting.

Pilots don't get to use the phrase "Negative Rabbits" nearly enough.
