"double whammy" ... "the joys of DC"... "is there anything around the northern side of DC you'd like to see"... "we're getting quite the aerial tour as it is"...
Weds 6/11/25 approx 2230-2300Z (1830-1900 ET), multiple stops for VIP movement (Trump at Kennedy Center) requiring USPP "Eagle" helicopter operations over the river near Rwy 19 approach path (generally managed in-between arrivals with one advance go-around for JIA5667); followed shortly by Golden Knights parachute display into Fort Myer VA (next to ANC, approx 2 miles NW of DCA), for US Army Twilight Tattoo celebrations for US Army 250th Birthday.
The para drop is referred to here as a practice for June 14th but was an actual display for the Twilight Tattoo event; there was a practice jump in the same location also around 1pm earlier. Golden Knights also slated to jump at a Nats Game, and on June 14th.
Unfortunate timing for JIA5022 which had 2 shots on Rwy 19 in-between stops, but missed both due to unstable approach and diverted to IAD after the 2nd miss ("skinny on gas"). Others reported 10-15 mins to min fuel during approach holds but arrivals resumed shortly after 2300Z.
Split into 2 parts post below. Attached combo Tower/Heli/Approach (OJAAY+Final)/Departure/KRANT, edited for time and content, not realtime.
Enjoy.
