Friday 6/13/25 15:10Z (11:10 ET) USCG MH65 Blackjack-1 on routine flight in N DC, calls Tower with active air defense mission heading 350 (later 310 but unconfirmed), "27 miles outside of center". The call was cancelled at 15:11.
At this time, NKS2442 "Spirit [Wings] 2442" A320 on approach to BWI from Milwaukee, lost communication with Potomac. From 15:07 thru 15:10 controllers on BUFFR 133.85, WOOLY 128.7 and BWI Final 119.7 called multiple times. NKS2442 made contact with WOOLY 128.7 at 15:10 and was handed off to BWI Final 119.7. During this time period NKS2442 was east of Frederick descending approx 10k to 5k. NKS2442 stated they "never got handed over" and were still on 133.65, should have been on 133.85.
14:50.44 NKS2442 was in contact with ZDC Sector 15 on 133.65 descending to FL290 at LUNDY. Could not find any further comms with NKS2442 on 133.65 but controller not audible on feed.
15:05.00 BUFFR 133.85 calls NKS2442 to contact Approach 125.5.
15:07.25 WOLLY 128.7 calls NKS2422 to contact Approach 119.7. 5 seconds later calls again. WOOLY, BUFFR and BWI Final then make multiple calls to NKS2442 for the next 2.5 mins.
15:09.50 Blackjack-1 initiates active air defense mission with DCA Tower
15:10.00 NKS2442 makes contact with WOOLY 128.7
15:10.38 NKS2442 given switch to BWI Final 119.7
15:10.47 Blackjack-1 cancels active air defense
15:11.46 NKS2442 up with BWI Final 119.7
Above timings based on consolidation of multiple feeds for these frequencies, may be subject to error.
Blackjack usually responds to light aircraft and the vector for the response doesn't line up with NKS2442 position at the time but seemed fluid; the timing of the call and cancellation lines up so I'm assuming it was in response to NKS2442.
