Title: KBOS water tornados?
Post by: Hollis on January 16, 2011, 09:10:56 PM

Never heard of 'water tornados'. I'm guessing they are the same as water spouts, or dust devils over dry land, or snow devils over snow fields, or aka known as whirlwinds. Was impressive enough to get the attention of the tower controller. Sure wouldn't want to fly into one of them, especially on short final!

Likely it was the effect of the wake churning up the water at the approach end of the landing runway.

Interesting observation from the tower.
