John Travolta - N218JT
« on: February 09, 2010, 12:47:49 AM »
Here is an rare audio clip of an ATC controller have a conversation with John Travolta. It's rare because it is unorthodox for a controller to deviate from normal chatter to get into a conversation.

Mr. Travolta files to KPIE frequently in both the Eclipse and his Golfstream.

Enjoy.

You're right, its not normal to deviate from std controlling chatter, but I have heard controllers on my local center feeds (ZBW) chat about all kinds of things for brief periods because they get to know the normal route pilots etc...

the last conversation i heard was in the summer, a pilot and controller briefly spoke about some of the better golf courses in the boston area to hit because the pilot brings his clubs with him often and has time to check some out... it 'was' later in the evening and not much other chatter going on...

i think the controller in your clip just wanted a little chat with 'vinnie barbarino'.... :)

Controller sounded only slightly star struck.  I had PAO tower ask me about the DA-40 when I was taking it back to my home airport after my private pilot check ride. They had only been around for a short period of time and were not well-known.

I also had a Boston Center controller ask me, "is something going on at Barnes? There's a lot of airplanes heading there for some reason."  It was just 4-5 planes but we were all IFR, and all going from ASH to BAF, for a small VATSIM-related gathering.  "Nah, nothing big, just a bunch of computer geeks getting together."  He laughed.  I asked if things were quiet at the time, and he said, "yep, but there's a big wave coming in shortly, so I'm just enjoying the break."

Controllers are human, too. Well, except for the N90 guys ;)

Um, where is the mp3? I clicked on the link and it just took me to a page about your book? Which by the way looks pretty interesting. But I did not find the recording.

Thanks!

Sorry I had to remove the clip for the month as I'm promoting the launch of my first book and the mp3 was being downloaded so much that it was using all of my bandwidth. I'm doing a promotion with a local radio station and there's a ton of hits to the site. I will put it back up April 1st once the promotion is done.

I didn't realize there would be so much interest in the clip, I'm glad there is as it is a great look into a great actor/aviator.

Joe

BTW if you are on Facebook you can look up the group that is promoting the book as well. look up Today Is When.

Because I'm not using as much bandwidth as was trending, I put the audio clip back up with John Travolta.

While you listen, check out my new novel. If you are into Flight Simulator the hero in the book is too.

Can you please put the audio back on your site, or post it to the message boards? I understand you want to drive traffic to your site then at least put it up on the message boards with an ad.

Or send me the mp3 i'll post it on my server. I have no bandwidth restrictions.

Great clip! Maintaining pilot/controller diplomatic relations.  :-) Must have been a slow traffic segment.
