Travelers are bracing for canceled flights and extensive delays after one flight's engine issue prompted a ground stop at John F. Kennedy International Airport Thursday. Bad weather is doing the rest.

The FAA says Frontier Airlines Flight 3546 landed safely at JFK around 12:45 p.m. after the crew reported an engine problem. The nature of the issue wasn't clear, but it comes as bad weather is already affecting flights.

Officials say the Airbus A320 had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico.

No other details were immediately available.

All inbound flights were being held at their origin until 1:45 p.m. Meanwhile, low clouds had inbound flights delayed by about three-and-a-half hours, according to FlightAware, and departures were delayed about an hour for weather, too.

The FAA says its investigation is ongoing.

It comes a day after a ground stop was ordered at Newark Liberty International Airport, though the FAA said that incident was related to staffing problems, and amid ongoing concern about air traffic control overall.
