I don't think the pilot is the stupid one. it's more the idiot ATCO. He asked a stupid question. Someone who goes to JFK all the time would not be confused, but to a new visitor, it makes NO sense. I don't recall hearing that terminology at other airports.

I thing that flight crews should be a little better with their English (All ATC communications must be in English) and it is the flight crews responsibility to know the language, not atc's responsibility to know theirs. If you want to fly you should be very fluent in English.
P.S. this is only my opinion, and by no means do I mean any offense to anyone on this forum.

I believe that the airline should have the responsibility to send a pilot who knows a little better English. I know its JFK and they are busy but they could of been nice of spelled it out a little better for them. but either way, it was still funny.

Or airlines could just put a note in their manuals saying that pilots should notify ATC after landing of what taxiway they will use to enter the ramp. That would solve it.
