You should find these interesting...
-
Holy smokes that was impressive.
-
Very impressive....I wonder where the person got all that Boeing footage.
-
I was amazed when my friend sent it to me. I don't know where he got it though and don't know who filmed it. But that takes some skill to do that, especially in a 777.
-
veryy impressive....thanks for sharing!! :D
Here you see the pilot skills!!!
-
No problem! glad I can share it!
-
I fly 777 has to be auto-land if not I tip my hat to the pilot good job. Who wants to be a test pilot on commercial aircraft not me for one no eject, I like all the bugs out no dramas.
Thanks for the video post :D
-
Thanks for the reply nick8682 . I wish I was in your positon! Thanks though but I think a test pilot would be fun.
-
It would be al lot of fun. You also get all the glamour like with the A380.
The whole world could see the test pilots. :) But beining a pilot is always fun, weither your test or commercial
A380-800!!!!!!! :D
-
of course it would be alot of fun. Plenty of glamour. I would think emergencys and odd sicuations prove who a pilot really is. Glad you all are enjoying!
-
That was seriously amazing!
-
Wow that was incredible!
-
That video reminded me of some video game. I mean, how often do you see a plan come in at such an angle and then land... even with auto-land, can it really do that well, with wind speed, direction, and heading correction upon touchdown??
Very cool, thanks! :)
-
No problem guys and still glad to see your all enjoying!
-
Interesting to see the 747 SP - they only made I think 4 of those for Quantas.
-
The paint schemes for these aircraft are indicative of an airframe still under testing or certification. Most probably they were determining crosswind limits for the airframe or autopilot.
Impressive nonetheless.
Hey N57, does your name stand for New Garden airport?
-
Yes I proudly am part of N57! But yes the paint does indicate it was a in testing. And it was interesting how the 747 SP was in there, ive seen a few of them at Boeing Field years back.
-
Which airfield is that? Seems like a desert. Does anyone know the ICAO code?
-
I was wondering the same thing, maybe in the Middle East someware, but I really don't know. I'll try to find out for you if I can.
-
I found out some tests were down at Andrews AFB in the desert, but I am still not exacly sure.

I found out some tests were down at Andrews AFB in the desert, but I am still not exacly sure.
-
The code is 07MT
-
How did you find that one? I found that the newer 777s were tested at Edwards AFB, not Andrews, But thanks for that.
-
O.K. Here are my Guesses as to the landing Strip....
Edwards AIr Force Base, California (High Desert, with plenty of Winds to shuffle about in Fall Winter, along Hwy 58.
Mojave International Airport (But I do not see any of the sitting duck planes, 'the grave yard') Mojave, California also High Desert Back Sloap of the mountains with plenty of winds along Hwy 58 as well...
And the one no one thought of......
Moses Lake Washington...KMWH...This is only a hop-skip-and a jump from BFI (Boeing Field) in a Flight. JAL trains there 747 pilots there. a Ton of Touch and Go's.... Everyone thinks Washington state as Green, well in Eastern WA, it is Desert, just like you see in the video...Just another airport to ponder....
A380-800 I know this will cause a lot of 'debate' but coming from Washington state (Boeing) I just want to add this little comment (and no offense to you, or airbus..it is amazing the sucker actually got off the ground.) "Do you see Boeing Test Pilots with Parachutes on during their tests, Like the Aircrew of the A380 had on during their maiden flight?" :-) Just friendly banter
-
I doubt the Feds would let Boeing test the 777 out of Andrews, as that's in Maryland, and where the current Air Force 1 and Air Force 2 are housed.
Edwards is possible, but 07MT in Glasgow is definitely it. Have a look at the info for it from Airnav:
http://www.airnav.com/airport/07MT
Boeing uses this field quite a bit.

Im actually from Washington and Boeing rocks, my dad worked for them also. And besides the test pilots get all the glory, remember? Boeing over Airbus any day, barnone.
As for the airstrip, I think it is Ebwards AFB, or your right it could be Moses lake. Actually I think it is Moses, But checkairman, are you sure its Edwards? I say it might be Moses Because alot of Boeing activity there. Just a thought.

d-a-m-b
Houghton11 - there's acutually been quite a few SP's built, check out Airliners.net or Planepictures.net for more... we actually have the Saudia Royal Flight -SP enroute right now back to IAH Houston Intercontinental!
And speaking of crosswinds, for most of this week we've been having a few days with some pretty heafty crosswinds (20kts-40kts sustained) forcing us to use runways that are normally restricted for takeoffs only, unless the pilots are gutzy enough to pull off tributes to that video!

Does anyone know the name of the song on the clip? Very addictive
-
I really have no clue what song it is but it goes well with the clip, makes the 747 and 777 even more graceful for such huge aircraft that they are. As for the airport it could be two different ones, my best guess is Moses lake and Edwards.
I'll try to email them to find out, and could anyone here translate what it says on the clip, I believe its spanish.

The song is "Return to Innocence" by the group Enigma.

From the link to the flying club at the end, I figured it was Portuguese (the .br is for Brazil). Looking around a bit I find this:
Translation:
It’s not every day that we find calm winds.
What do you do in these situations?
Fly.
One comes back to one's time in the Flying Club.
One remembers his instructors and makes a safe landing.
These pilots had certainly flown conventional aircraft.
Learn with the best ones…Flying Club.

Found the video posted on a site in 2001.
One poster wrote:
"Those were max demonstrated crosswind landings for certification. Shot at Palmdale and Edwards. You never see the rudder deflect until after touchdown like you would if it was a slip. The pilots were not allowed to 'kick the crab' so as to prove the aircraft was capable of a typical (in this case Brazillian) line guys mishandling of a crosswind landing.

Thanks!!! how did you get all that. I didnt think anyone knew what song that was. thanks for the translation.
Shot at Palmdale and Edwards
How did they know that and what forum is that? I would like to check it out.
Thanks for all your help, its much appreciated!
-
How did I find that stuff? I used the internet. <g>
Type some of the words into a search engine and you are rolling...
Google some of the Portuguese words (in quotes)
Look for an English translation
Google some of the lyrics (in quotes)
Use "boeing crosswind landing" (in quotes) in google and you'll get a disccussion over at simradar.com from '04 - which would have saved me some time in finding the translation.
I also find now a fs2004.com discussion from '05
I don't have the link to the 2001 discussion.

Here, I got curious and googled the words:
Portuguese landings aeroclub crosswind Palmdale
First hit in the list is the one you are looking for

Post from "single pilot" a few down the page.
I see it is a 2005 discussion. My eye must have caught the poster's registration year (2001)
