Title: Full Flight Recorded KORD - KBOS
Post by: Himerzi on November 13, 2009, 11:17:21 PM
Courtesy of channel 9, I was able to record all comms between my flight, UAL538, and ATC. So, here's the clip, its long (the 2hr 30 min I spent on the plane), unmodified, but I always thought it would be interesting to have a clip which followed the same flight from takeoff to landing.

DL'd 551 times, 552 including me and not one thank you. So, thank you!
Always wanted to hear a complete flight and safety announcement included, love it.

I found the info about channel 9 on Wikipedia  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines
 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines)
"The entire fleet features "From the Flightdeck" on channel 9. This program allows passengers to listen to live radio communications between the cockpit and Air Traffic Control. "From the Flightdeck" can be disabled at the pilot's discretion."

This is a nice feature of United, especially for us who like to listen to ATC!!  :-D

I do have questions about the use of a scanner in the air but I'll start that thread in the lister forum.

Thankyou too...it's a good Idea to do this...I have sometimes thought about following USAIR from Manchester england to Philly...I think if I remember rightly...the Delta Pilot Waved at me at manchester (he did 1st which was nice) and I might have listened to the atlanta sector or i've just merged them2  :-D

Just curious when exactly this flight was as I work at Chicago center and work all east bound departures.

It was the United 538 flight, on Friday the 13th. Not sure about the exact times, but it departs 5 pm CST, and arrives 8 est.

Wow!  That is pretty impressive.  What kind of equipment did you use?

What would really be cool is if someone did this on a United flight to Asia because we don't have a lot of those feeds and oceanic feeds on here.

This was really cool! Thank you for recording it and uploading it.

I edited a version with most of the silence taken out, for people like me that prefer a constant chatter. It is a lot less realistic, but, an option for some listeners : )

Do you know if the United Express fleet has this too? In a couple months im flying United Express/Skywest to ABQ from ORD, and I really hope they do, but I'm not sure.

I flew on a couple of United Express flights this year (Mesa, CRJ) and they did not have Channel 9.

For those that might want to skyvector this... I came up with this route after listening:

KORD (9R) (ORD4) EBAKE ALB (GDM3) BRONC KBOS (CTL 4R then switched to 4L on final)
