Also well done by the pilot. There is really no place to land an aircraft anywhere in the vicinity, so he was absolutely right to remember and pull his parachute:

Interesting that they weren't able to pick up an ELT.  You would think that using the CAPS would result in an automatic activation of the ELT.  Kinda seems like it would be a good update to add to the aircraft's system.  I found this from cirrus as far the ELT activation goes (see attached pdf).  Note step 8 is to activate the ELT.
