Title: Direct Where? United 270 KSNA 3-9-10
Post by: speedotann on March 09, 2010, 05:17:29 PM
Hey everyone,

I got this earlier. I thought it was funny. SoCal Approach controller tells United 270 to go Direct Pigeon way point and continue the DUUKE1 Departure. Pigeon is actually pronounced Piggon but the spelling is like the bird, Pigeon. I have heard controllers and pilot discuss the pronunciation for this in the past and a controller said it is said Like Piggon but say it however you want. Sorry if this is confusing and please enlighten me if you have further knowledge of this.  :-D

I just checked the DUUKE1 departure procedure and the intersection is 'PIGGN'

TAKE-OFF RUNWAY 19R: Climb heading 194 to at or above 540, then
intercept 175 course to DUUKE, then via depicted route to PIGGN, thence . . . .

Below is intersection as depicted on the procedure.

Thanks, Guess it's Piggn. I have heard so much talk about this. Pilots usually say pigeon...

I empathize with the confused. I see PIGGN, and I'm thinkin' initially 'Pig-in' (like Pig-in-a-blanket, shows where my mind is). A second look gives 'Pigeon,' but I think I'd squeak out a "ya want us to go where?!" before i put that together.
