The aircraft returned to Atlanta for a safe landing on runway 27R about 50 minutes after departure.
The FAA reported: "Delta Air Lines Flight 105 returned safely to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 7 p.m. local time on Wednesday, January 1, after the crew reported a possible issue with one of the engines. The Airbus A330 was headed to Sao Paulo, Brazil. The FAA will investigate."
The aircraft is still on the ground in Atlanta about 18 hours after landing.
