On July 8th, JIA5511 was established on final for runway 28 at KSYR and was cleared to land by the tower. Before the flight landed, EDV5421 was cleared for takeoff from the same runway. The tower controller realized what was going on and instructed JIA5511 to go around. Initial reports say that the two aircraft came within about 700 feet of each other. JIA5511 came around and landed safely a few minutes later while EDV5421 continued on to New York. A police car dash cam video shows how close the two aircraft came to each other.
