I dont think the first freq. they switched to with OPS is on liveatc, but you may want to check the ground.

If you look at news about this there is close up pics of the windscreen and it looks like the pilots wouldn't of been able to see anything out of it. One of passengers said it was scariest 10 min of their life. They didn't know how badly the windscreen had been damaged til after getting off. Imagine how them poor pilots must of felt, they did a great job to land safely.

Quick question: What is "one step righter lights"? The tower asks the pilot if he desires this. I cannot find any reference for an operating Tower that mentions this. Possibly for runway identification with the cracked windshields?

"Do you want normal lights or one step brighter" is the transcript (3:15).  There are several brightness settings for runway lights that can be controlled by the tower.  They want to know if it would help the emergency aircraft see with the broken windshield if they turned them up some.

Apparently Tower said they were operating with "normal operating bright" and asked the pilots if they wanted the lights brighter since they had problems to see forward.

Pilots reported the front windshields were severely damaged but they could see at the sides.

These guys made an awesome job!!! Look at the pictures of their damage... how scary that situation gotta be!! :-o :-o
