Nothing cranky about that at all. Someone taking a call for someone else happens more times than you like, not to mention incorrect readbacks in general. This could lead to disastrous results. It is ultimately the controller's responsibility. This controller raising his voice gets all pilots attention on this frequency when it is needed at a most critical situation. Voice inflection is one of the subtle tools usable to a good controller.

We all have our days, but I definitely agree with you. There are invariably many different distractions that can occur at random on the frequency. You can't always predict which pilots will and won't read back the correct clearance, but you can certainly anticipate and use vocal tone and inflection to clarify and further promote your point to the those on the other end of the frequency. As you point out, reading back someone else's clearance could lead to an extremely dangerous situation we greatly hope to avoid.
Be careful out there.
Best,
Jason
