From January 24, 2004...N1381J lost their engine near Bedfors, MA. These pilots were able to put it down very smoothly and walk away from it. A super job by the pilots and to the Boston Approach controller for providing calm support.
Note: The recording is condensed in time.

Very interesting to listen to. That controller did a great job!

These Boston Controllers are very calm with emergencies not to disregard other controllers though. Emergencies are practiced for this very reason, to allow Air Traffic Control on the ground to maintain their cool and solve the situation presented to them.
Very interesting clip indeed!

An amazing clip!

Glad To see you on the ground safe.

Notice how calm and collected the pilot was as opposed to the other post with the pilot freaking out. At least this pilot sends important information to ATC about what's actually happening. GOOD JOB!!! Glad all was well.

Yeah, and it's good he was able to do so, but there's a world of difference between the two situations - here, sure he lost an engine, but he could see and was in control of the aircraft. It was a matter of continuing to do what he was already doing (and he did an admirable job of that!!). The other guy was out of his element, he did not have control, his situation was degrading beyond his ability to cope with it, and he was actively in the process of crashing, as far as he knew. Don't think we can criticise him for being stressed - but as stressed as he was, he was able to reel it back in!

Very cool

I've listened to this clip many times and more than any of the others, this is the one that gives me goose bumps... especially the part where the controller is handing off some of the other flights to other sectors and controllers and the one guy repeats the frequency and squeezes in a "good luck guys" as he switches off... crazy stuff... kind of impressive how well the controller not only keeps his cool, but in doing so keeps the pilot collected as well... freaky to have the pilot write in on the forum as well... hehe... glad you made it in ok...
