Casper Wyoming Skylane Crash
« on: March 27, 2023, 02:45:05 PM »
(from Aviation Accidents/This Day in History)

Found his approach audio into Casper Airspace, a few other aircraft in the space as well.
Very haunting conditions report from one of them when asked by ATC, the quite a few mic clicks, then nothing.
RIP.

March 21, 2023 - A Cessna 182S Skylane, registered to Hawkeye Helicopter LLC of Lyndon, Kansas, N314FR, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Casper, Wyoming.
The commercial-rated pilot sustained fatal injured. The flight departed an unknown airport, and was headed to an unknown destination.
A review of the ADS-B data shows that the track began at 7900 feet at about 14:13 local. The airplane maintained a relatively normal flightpath. At 14:21, the airplane disappeared from the flight-tracking website (Figure 1). At 15:24, the airplane appeared again on the tracking site. The airplane was at 7500 feet, climbing to 7800 feet, before it began a descent to 6600 feet. At 15:52, the airplane began a right turn over the small town of Evansville, Wyoming (Figure 2). The airplane was now on a southernly heading and flew over the Casper Mountain. After that, the airplane began a descent over a 10 minute period (Figure 3), but began a climb after it approached some wooded covered hillsides. It appears the airplane was unable to outclimb the terrain and crashed into a very remote wooded hillside near Alcova Reservoir, Wyoming. (Figure 4)
The pilot held a commercial rating for airplane single-engine land and multi-engine land. He also held an instrument rating. He was also a mechanic. His FAA third-class medical certificate was issued August 1, 2022.
The registered operator performs aerial patrol and inspection work, specializing in pipeline and powerline services for the energy industry.
