Usually when I think "hot wing failure," I think of some kind of problem with an appetizer tray. This was a little more serious.

Great recording! But what was the final resolution?

They flew on to Jamaica. They were talking about fixing it on a return via Orlando. I looked up the MEL for the 737-900 and it was not clear to me that they could wire the engine cowl valve open in addition to the wing. It gets complicated and depends upon ambient temperature, which of course is much warmer down there. Also involves climb weight and EPR restrictions. Anyway, as usual, they lived.

I looked up the Quick Reference Handbook for the 737-700 and 800 and found that in such case they have to reduce thrust on that engine when the outside temperature reaches +10 degrees Celsius ( the QRH states 80% N1 thrust at +10 C) so I wondered how warm it was at Jamaica - meaning the warmer it gets the less trust they can use...

Thanks for the follow up, InterpreDemon (and 757-rules, too) - sorry I didn't get here to see it until just now.
