Bonanza Crash on LIRR Tracks Aug 16
« on: August 18, 2015, 07:01:28 PM »

At about 745AM on Sunday August 16, a small plane crashed on the tracks of the Long Island Rail Road in Hicksville NY on Long Island.  The aircraft reportedly had engine failure.  The flight originated from Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach (KFOK) and had two on board, the pilot and a passenger.  The passenger survived but sad to say the pilot did not survive the crash.  Audio attached.

RIP

Unfortunately, the airport the controller kept giving the pilot has been closed for about 15 years and the strip no longer exists. It is covered by commercial buildings and townhouses. The aircraft did come down though about 1/4 Mile short of the old runway.

PS. It was the old Grumman Aerospace strip that the controller kept giving the pilot.

I would think someone ought to be explaining why it was on his video map then.
