I captured this audio of a bird strike on departure from MSY and the runway cleanup.

Glad someone else is listening.

The MSY airport is pretty much surrounded by swamp. The airport is about as far away from the city you can get and still be in civilization. So birds are often a problem. When I went to the airport for a tour with the airport director, he handed me off to one of the ops guys (O, as in ops, Oscar 2) and we went and fired some "anti-bird" fireworks. Ops usually does a great job in making sure they stay off and out of the areas around the runway.

Thanks for the clip.

KMSY, thank you for the info.  Not knowing the area, I guess the swamps would lend support for many birds.    Thanks for the clear reception from KMSY!

I listen to the MSY feed a lot; good controllers and interesting accents!  My best friend from high school married a guy born and raised in the city 10 years ago and I'm just now understanding some of his words!

I heard a funny exchange last night on the feed: the contoller mistakenly called USA758 an airbus, but they were in a 737 and the pilot said "airbus...ewwww...not us, we bought real airplanes".  I have the time noted at home, but I think it was around 1630Z (6 Aug).

Great catch. I found it and I'm gonna post it later, along with another clip I found.

It's hard for me to tell what an accent is, since I've been living here all my life, but I'm starting to hear it.

Thanks again, and keep listening.
