dumping that much fuel must be a big financial loss

I think they said 15 tonnes (assuming they're talking UK weights, being British and all), which is 33,000 pounds (approximately).  1 ton = 2204 pounds (UK).  33,000 pounds is about 4860 gallons.  (6.79lb/gal).  Assuming that the airline is paying about $3/gal with a good contact, that's $14.5K for the dump, and another $14.5K on the ground at CYYZ to refuel.  So not exactly cheap, but cheaper than running off the end of the runway 'cause you're overweight on landing.  :)  Just part of the cost of doing business, I suppose.

It was interesting to hear that they changed the crew to perform the landing. I know they carry 2 crews on the long flights but I would have thought that LAS - YYZ was short enough for the current crew to handle. Would appreciate any opinions on why this might have been?

Maybe the cruise crew didn't get the "how to land" training yet   ...kidding

If I was sick on a plane and they came forward to offer me $5000 to parachute, I'd take it, provided the EMS was there to meet me.

Perhaps the insurance companies could add this as a valid option to tick off on their forms.
