Hi there!

Many thanks for all your recent clips - Some excellent catches! Can I just make a suggestion though? You're currently posting the files in WAVE format (.wav). The preferred forum format is .mp3, primarily because of the smaller file size - Audacity is a great tool for editing audio clips, and it can also encode them to MP3 as well. The benefit this has is the smaller file size I mentioned and thus less bandwidth charges for Dave, our illustrious leader! There's a thread on using Audacity at http://www.liveatc.net/forums/atcaviation-audio-clips/audio-editing-tools-help-with-adding-your-own-audio-clips/ and any more help you should need just post back and there'll always be someone here who'll be happy to help you - I certainly will.

Again thanks for the clips and keep up the good work!!

And, to expand on etc76's point, in Audacity you have the option to change the bitrate when creating MP3 files.  I believe the default in Audacity is 128kbps but since the LiveATC archive files (the source for just about all clips here) are only 16kbps, using a higher bitrate in Audacity only results in a larger file without any improvement in sound quality.

Drop the bitrate to 16kbps in Audacity and you can get a 10 minute clip file under a megabyte in size with no degradation in sound quality.

I wonder if I'm the only one to have problems with downloading this clip. I only get 310 kb and then it says that downloading is completed  :-(

Anyone who has ever worked in or taken a tour of an ATC facility will tell you about the massive "NO CELL PHONE" signs everywhere, so somebody screwed up. It's understandable, if you've ever heard the annoying GSM digital "dit-ditdi-dit" noise through your speakers when your cell phone rings, imagine hearing that through your headset instead of somebody's readback or some time critical piece of information. It could seriously jeapordize safety of flight. (There could also be some other reason I'm not aware of.)

The towers I've been in seemed to be pretty laid back about it, but when I toured Norcal TRACON security didn't even let cell phones in the building!!!  :-o

Haha.
Whenever I hear a buzzing in my headset I realize I forogt my cellphone on. It can be reaaaally bad sometimes.
Although gsm phones are horrible. The other type isn't nearly as bad

Your post is ambiguous.  Are you saying that the press release is BS or that the hypocritical FAA manglement is BS?
