Be sure to check out this video/Audio from the C-130 making a fire retardant drop on the huge Rim fire near Yosemite NP in California.  At this point yesterday the fire was 125,000 Acres and growing.  Both of the DC-10's are (VLAT - Very Large Air Tankers) are also on the fire, #1 priority in the US)

Watch it at full screen to get the full impact and also see the plane (Air Attack) in the distance leading him in and puffing smoke to mark the drop point.

and remember "Landing Gear" not required  :-D

They didn't require landing gear but at 3:37 they had to throttle up a bit  :-D

Seems like turning off the "landing gear" message would have made it easier for everyone. Maybe just one breaker?

Then it would not work when they needed it to work...

If y'all haven't already found this fact in the Youtube comments, the "Landing Gear" audible warning is actually quite complex to disable.  Apparently, according to the source on Youtube, it'll take a change in the software (by the manufacturer and the USAF) and "hopefully be resolved by next fire season"...wow.

Davisdog, thanks for the post.  Awesome, awesome footage.

Maybe just one breaker?

As Joeyb747 said, then it won't work later.  If resetting the circuit breaker is not in the checklist it is very easy to forget to reset it.  Imagine if there was a malfunction, engine failure or resolution advisory immediately after the drop that distracted the crew from resetting the breaker, they could be busy handling the emergency procedure or maneuver and not think to reset the breaker.  Then when they are short final, everyone is concentrating on getting the airplane on the ground with maybe an engine out, and nobody notices that the gear is up...

Entire crews have crashed perfectly good airplanes for much less significant issues, i.e. Eastern 401.

I speak from experience as a current C-130 guy.  Real C-130s, not that J model crap.
