aviation terms
« on: May 06, 2009, 07:05:52 PM »
Hello everyone!
I'm not from English speaking country. It is my first steps in aviation and i've face a slight problem. I hope you'll help me reveal the meaning of the phrase i've heard in the speach of a foreign controller when he phoned to our facility. He "requested control" of some traffic. Some people say that means he wants to verify climb or descend of that traffic. Please, explain! Thank you all in advance!!!

He's asking to turn or descend the aircraft prior to it being in his sector. We used to get handoffs from  from Forth Worth Center 10,000' above and 20 miles outside our airspace with "Your control on contact". Center had no radar coverage in that area.

I've always loved "your control on contact". What?! No control before then?(and what good would it do me anyway if I wasn't talking to the pilot yet!)

Wouldn't "your control" suffice?

Request for control allows the controller to do whatever he needs with that airplane
for either his traffic needs or the pilot's flight needs.

Food for thought... That reminds me, I'm hungry.
