Austin Plane Crash- take off on KGTU feed
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:59:18 PM »
According to reports, looks like it was N2889D and it can be heard about mid way on the 1530Z feed.  If it is true, its creepy to listen how normal everything sounds

Damn, I listened to that earlier but didn't catch it because I was listening for cherokee instead of dakota.  His voice sounded a little shaky and rushed to me.  That was a very short flight.  The crash reportedly happened around 15:46 zulu.

The takeoff from Georgetown is attached to this post.  Pilot cleared for takeoff and then issues a "frequency change approved" after takeoff.  Unknown whether he had VHF Flight Following or contacted Austin Approach.  No evidence one way or the other.

I'd seriously doubt he was talking to anyone. Why would he request flight following? Last thing he wanted was for ATC to be tracking him.

The FBI is saying it was a probable suicide event. They have had his website contents removed. However, there is a link on it to the diatribe he wrote on it just this morning before setting his house on fire and heading to the airport. Pilot's name is Joseph Andrew Stack.

www.EmbeddedArt.com gives the link to his 'suicide' msg.

p.s. - I tuned into the Austin tower feed shortly after I heard the news. I heard this little exchange -
Approaching aircraft: 'Is that smoke from a house fire or a plane crash?'
Tower: 'One and the same'.

At least he didn't kill more people.... It could of been a whole lot worse, but condolences to the families that lost loved ones.... He really did not sound agitated or anything, very creepy!!

Theres a lot of irony in the exchange between the Controller and Pilot.

"Say Direction"
"Southbound"
"Super"

or

"Frequency change approved, we'll see you later"
"Have a great day"

Please listen to this clip again - I'm hearing something that to me is a possible confirmation that he was going on a suicide mission.

At 1:26.5 into the clip, I heard: "I'm definitely checking out - have a great day."

Am I the only one who hears this?

Also, KXAN reported that nothing unusual was said in his last communication, and they aired a clip where he said "Thanks for your help, have a great day."

So where did they get that clip - it certainly wasn't from the above clip, because the phrase is clearly different when put side by side.

Just curious...

I looked at some pictures of the gaping hole in the building....
I saw the Empennage left from the Dakota, and realized I've seen that paint scheme before...

Turns out Scheme Designers did it, just as I thought!
