ARG1301 @ KJFK Eng Stall
« on: February 10, 2017, 06:41:09 PM »
Argentina 1301 suffered a compressor stall while initiating takeoff from JFK.  Another aircraft nearby reported an engine fire on the Argentina aircraft.  It stopped on the runway with no fire indication and the engine automatically shutdown.  After inspection by fire service the aircraft taxied off the runway on 1 engine and was then towed back to the gate.  There was no evacuation.

Clip edited to remove non-relevant traffic and gaps with the exception of the span from takeoff clearance to change to alternate frequency which is in real time.

Listened to this as it happened via the ground/tower feed.  Thanks for editing it down.

It was busy last night. Delta 2103 had to go around twice. On the first approach the previous landing hadn't cleared the runway and on the second approach this event happened.

Thanks for posting the audio clip cptbrw.

Thanks also to nitroboie for the additional information (but no audio clip provided :-( ). However the absence of audio from nitrobie spurred me into listening to the incident on the alternative JFK feeds and I've produced the attached audio clip as a result of this. My clip is from the JFK Tower feed which covers both 31L and 31R. This feed is a bit noisier than the one used by nitroboie but it includes the two go-arounds (in practice, one by Delta 2103 and one by Delta 44).

Sorry, I was mobile for the majority of the weekend but was finally able to edit a clip down. Some may find it boring others may find it interesting for how planes are worked back into the pattern.

The file attached is DAL2103 going around from 31R, vectors for the 31L approach, cancelled 31L approach, more vectors, and finally landing on 31R. Audio used was from Feb 10 KJFK TWR 1191 0330Z, KJFK NY DEP 0330Z, ROBER 0330Z, ROBER 0400Z, and TWR 1191 0400Z.

DAL44 appears to have diverted back to JFK. KJFK-Twr-1191-Feb-10-2017-0330Z at 6:40 the plane is cleared to take off, I'm not sure why they returned to Kennedy.
