Another CAP Intercept During POTUS LA Visit
« on: May 18, 2012, 08:46:04 PM »
This is another TFR intercept with BIGFOOT and Band 45/46 during the recent POTUS LA visit.  The plane landed at Chino Airport with Band 46 immediately behind.  Also attached is the concurrent recording from the SOCAL/Chino LiveATC feed with extraneous material edited out.  The violator was Bonanza 913 Kilo Mike.  The Chino feed scans between SOCAL and Chino Tower so not everything is captured and there are gaps.  Band 46 is talking to SOCAL (on UHF) while the Bonanza is on the Tower frequency.  Towards the end of the recording, he explains to the Tower what happened.  However, there are gaps and it's a bit unclear.  The pilot was allowed to leave pretty quickly but given a couple of phone numbers to call.

Thanks to the Chino feed provider!  It allows additional insight to what was going on.

Hmmm.  That doesn't sound as professional as I would have expected.  This recording and the earlier one seem to show that BIGFOOT has no thorough understanding of the interceptors' characteristics.  Are there no pilots in the control room?  I wouldn't want a "serious" case to be handled by this troupe.

I noticed at the start of the recording between Bigfoot and Band 45, Bigfoot advises that the aircraft is squawking 7500, which is the transponder code to use if you've been hijacked.  So, even if the aircraft didn't violate the TFR, I can certainly understand why they would be intercepting an unidentified aircraft heading towards a presidential TFR that is indicating that it's been hijacked.
