Title: Allegiant 746 Emergency Landing at KABE
Post by: makonyy15 on June 28, 2009, 08:31:13 PM
Last night AAY 746 ingested part of one its tires into an engine on takeoff causing flames and a compressor failure. The aircraft then returned to KABE without incident. Article from WFMZ below and edited audio attached.

Haha, didn't even phase him.  I'm surprised they came right back around.  Usually there's quite a checklist to go through to secure the engine and configure for single engine ops, especially for an MD80

Many say they felt a bump, heard some smoke - and so began the trip back to LVIA.

The article actually provided some good details.  Usually the media doesn't state the details like "alert 2" and such.  But hearing smoke?  I'm not sure I know what smoke sounds like.  I once smelled a buzz that sounded red.

At least the media is getting better in some regards :roll:.

I started laughing hysterically when tower called to Allegiant saying they had flames out of the engine and the pilot simply responds with "Uhhh yeah thanks."

How much runway would a loaded md80 need?

Don't have time to look myself, but try this;

Section 3.4 is what you want I think

Wow, the pilot kept his composure like nothing was going on. Sounds like a good pilot to me.
