A single-engine airplane with only its pilot on board made a crash landing at Pueblo Memorial Airport Saturday after the plane experienced issues with its landing gear.

The pilot, who was not injured during the incident, landed the plane on the runway of the airport just after 1 p.m., where firefighters from the Pueblo Fire Department were standing by to render aid.

The fire department announced Saturday morning that at least six of its engines were on scene responding to an alert 2, which indicates an aircraft is experiencing a major malfunction, and were standing by “in case of an incident.”

At 11:12 a.m., the fire department stated another plane was going up to “try to assess if gear is stuck or if it’s a hydraulic leak.”

A little more than an hour later, the department reported that the plane, a Piper Aircraft, was circling the airport to burn off fuel before its approach and landing.

The fire department reported at 1:14 p.m. that the pilot had landed the plane successfully and had not suffered any injuries.

"We are happy to report that this incident has concluded and all units are returning to service," the fire department stated on social media.
