It's a non-issue now. Turns out that it was an employee who was travelling in a private capacity, and a FA didn't know anything about it, and panicked, so the pilots diverted.

What makes this worse is that because of the diversion, they (the crew) exhausted all of their flight / service time and had to take their mandatory 8 - 12 hour break. Flight was cancelled in NYC.

Must be very irritating to land and waste all that fuel.

One could probably glance at the archive to hear them land at JFK, but it probably wouldn't be anything special. AA's LAX-LHR has now diverted to JFK several times in the last few months.

Irritating to waste fuel? If they didn't have to dump any the fuel is still good in the tanks after landing...

AA 136 is my preferred LAX-LHR flight, but it does seem to have bad luck.  I was on board last 9 August and we were one of the last planes allowed to land in LHR before the airport was shut down as the "bottle bomb" arrests were made.

Nothing like completing the 11+ hour flight and then suddenly stopping on the ramp then being told the airport was shut down.  We stayed on board for over 3 hours without having any clue what was happening, although the AA staff handled the situation well.

I flew back to LAX on 16 August and had the closest thing the UK and US governments could get to a full body cavity search.  Good times.   Not!
