An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N157UW performing flight AA-2616 from Boston,MA to Philadelphia,PA (USA), was climbing through 8000 feet out of Boston's runway 22R when the crew declared Mayday reporting they had lost autopilot and autothrust, their FMSs were disagreeing on position, they needed to return to Boston. The aircraft positioned for a return to Boston's runway 22L about 45 minutes after departure.
The flight was cancelled.
The FAA reported: "American Airlines Flight 2616 returned safely to Boston Logan International Airport around 7:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, Aug. 17, after the crew reported a possible flight system issue. The Airbus A321 was headed to Philadelphia International Airport. The FAA will investigate."
