Aeromexico 576 hijacked at MMMX
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:50:53 PM »
Aeromexico 576 was flight from MMUN [Cancún] to MMMX [Mexico City] and hijacked after taking off from MMUN. Passangers were freed on the ground of MMMX, crews were held. Hijacking got over safely after.

This is my edit of ATC recording MMMX of time of the accident with all silenced cut off from 1900 to 2000Z

Enjoy and i really hope someone on this site is fluent Spanish speaker.

Thanks for the clip Rae. Unfortunately, I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary, nor any references made to the event. The controller was busy, and everything appeared to be operating normally.

"The Bible-carrying hijacker used a juice can he said was a bomb to hold the 103 passengers and crew on the tarmac for more than an hour. Masked police stormed the aircraft with their guns drawn and escorted several handcuffed men away without firing a shot. Police later said there was only one hijacker."

"As the plane was landing, Flores stood up and showed his contraption to a flight attendant, saying he and three others were hijacking the plane, Garcia Luna said. Flores later told police his three companions were "the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.""

Yep, from what I understand, ATC was only made aware of the incident in a later stage of flight, when the plane checked in with the tower (which we don't have a feed covering).

im downloading the files, as soon as i listen to them, i will post a transcription

edit:

Nothing concerning about the hijack. I guess you lost it, because yes, all that happened by that time and as far as i know they talked through radio about everything. Maybe if you have from 1800Z to 1900Z im pretty sure there is something. The plane landed at about 1930Z but we don't have mex app feed so...

Okay, i was listening from 1730Z to 1830Z and Mexico Center was giving vectors to make short approach to all aircrafts arriving to mexico city, i attached the file from 1800Z to 1830Z and in the 05:20min when the ATC gives vectors to make short the approach he says why.

Mexico Center: Costera 0304 incremente a 3000 pies por minuto para acortarle la aproximación tenemos una emergencia en una aeronave.
Costera 0304: Enterados incrementamos a 3000 pies costera 0304

English:

Mexico Center: Costera 0304 increase to 3000ft per minute to make short the approach we have an emergency in an aircraft.

Costera 0304: Roger Increasing to 3000ft costera 0304.

For about 1.5 hours, the ATC warned that the Lucia Military Base was active and made all the aircrafts avoid that area.

That's all what i heard about the incident, from 1830 to 1900 there wasn't any single aircraft on the signal, i think the pilot was told about the procedure since they were controled from Merida Center(no feed) because Mexico Center didn't have radio contact with the AMX576.

I hope it's usefull.

The aircraft was not hijacked until it began it's approach. No one knew about it because it happened in the very late stages of the flight.

"MEXICO CITY — It was 1 p.m. when the control tower at the Mexico City airport got the first word of a bizarre drama that would play out over the next two hours: The pilot of Aeromexico Flight 576 radioed that a man aboard claimed to have a bomb and wanted to talk with President Felipe Calderon."

After takeoff, the hijacker treatened with 3 JUMEX juice cans, (they are the only ones in the world, I believe, made out of steel, not aluminium) strapped with duct tape and some wires (and a bible) and said that it was a bomb, this when flying over water, pilot contacted someone on ground when flying over Veracruz (DUPLO fix and VERACRUZ VOR) by the time it went over Veracruz, people on ground knew about the emergency, BUT either they handled it over emergency channels, we may never know because PUEBLA FEED (mine) was out at the time, I can get Veracruz when W to E, Mexico APP when E to W, so we were in a goog spot if FEED wasn´t out, if they communicated only they knew but I think pilot warned everyone on ground then flew normally to MMMX (Veracruz to APAN fix, then LUCIA or MATEO, then MMMX)

Why hijack the plane so early on flight? because the hijacker wanted to talk to the pilot and to get attention because his goal was to warn president Calderon about a great catastrofic event to happen on Mexican soil (a big earthquake) I don´t remember if when asked to talk to the pilot, did it with the bomb or  flashed it after request was refused...

in any case, too bad PUEBLA was out, could have answered some questions..

funny how "devoted" chistians go out and kill even though its written in the commandments "thou shalt not kill"...thats why religion (especially christianity) is funny to me...because its leaders and followers and books are so contradictory...ppl like this guy are the reason i dont claim a religion...
