JFK ground helps out "America's Finest"
« on: October 26, 2007, 09:27:28 AM »
Last night I was taxiing out of JFK at about 2015lcl on 10/25 (0015z? on 10/26) and ground instructed us to follow a North American 767 to runway 13R.  NA then called ground and stated they had a plane full of "America's Finest" (I'm not sure where they were headed to) and asked if there was anything they could do for a shortcut.  Ground looped them back around the airport to 13L and was able to get them out with no delay at all.  I thought this was a very cool thing to do, albeit small.  Taxi time actually wasn't that bad for us, as it was only an hour from pushback to wheels up (pretty good for JFK rush hour).

Is anyone able to isolate this time period (their request for a shortcut, then a couple mins later ground told them there was a gap in the arrivals and to hurry to the runway) and form it up as an audio clip.  I have a friend in the marines that would love to hear how even ATC does whatever they can for our servicemen.  Unfortunately you guys have much better audio clipping skills that I do.

Thanks!

Things were a bit hectic for a while there. This clip is the initial call to Ground from your subject a/c, NA508, who was cleared out to Rwy 31R, but things didn't work out that way. First the holdup by Delta 422 (funny)
I left the clip un-edited (in real time). However moments after this, Rwy 31R was closed due to an inbound emergency, Connie919 heavy. Hence the taxi re-routing to 31L for departures.
NA508 did get priority handling for it.

Thanks for the clip, unfortunately most of the good stuff was cut out by scanning.  The Connie that landed emerg didn't cause any delays at all.  Just landed on 13R and turned off and got out of the way, no problem at all.  The line for departures extended from 13R down Q to N.  North American was just getting to the line and had already turned around by the time connie got down to the ground.
Oh well, thanks anyways.  That's me flying COM940.  My initial question was not recorded, but ground had told us to follow the north american.  But when he turned around I had to ask ground where they wanted us to go.  Thats when you hear him tell us to get behind the Tam on A short of MB.
