Title: Aborted Takeoff -- Listening to Professionalism
Post by: GeezingGuy on April 03, 2023, 10:12:10 AM
On Mar 31 DL 1482 had takeoff clearance cancelled while rolling, resulting in a rejected takeoff and cancelled flight.  TV news reported from the passenger perspective.  No doubt an aborted takeoff can be scary in the back.

Here's the link the to broadcast:  https://www.kbtx.com/2023/04/02/delta-flight-aborts-takeoff-another-aircraft-crosses-runway/

Listening to the controller/pilot-not-flying interchange makes it sound pretty routine.

Rejected takeoffs do happen from time to time.  In this case, it appears that a Learjet was thought to have crossed over the runway hold-short line prompting the tower controller to cancel the takeoff clearance.

Pilots can also reject a takeoff if they believe it would be unsafe to continue (engine issue, bird strike, etc.).  While not occurring routinely, it does happen.
