I was in a rush when I put up the original post.

BTW I checked the KMIA feed for the landing but the only ATC transmitting on that feed was MIA departure.

If you look at the video of the landing, that Captain did a great job keeping the nose wheel off the ground until the last possible moment.

Question from a novice of sorts.
Why would the pilot go to Miami rather than Chicago (original destination)? Assuming he wanted a longer runway....ORD has at least the same length runways, no?
If there was no urgency to land (and in fact he took time to burn fuel), why not burn fuel going to his original destination? (I'm sure the fire trucks respond as well in Chicago....maybe the risk of drag?, maybe the risk of icing?)

Just a joke.  Apart from the long runway - it may be due to the fact that Miami is an AA hub with some of the top mainentance faclities. 

The plane would have also only been able to fly at VLE (Maximum speed with landing gear extended) - not what that is for an MD-80 but I doubt that it would have been more than 200kts.  Would have taken a long time to fly all the way to ORD.
