AAL732 Diverts to KJFK After Navigation Equipment Failure
« on: December 14, 2024, 16:59:43 UTC »
AAL732 was enroute to London's Heathrow Airport from Charlotte, North Carolina on December 13 and was south of Long Island at FL350 when the crew reported a failure of one of their redundant pieces of navigation equipment.  They told ATC that they could not continue with just one navigational system operational and decided to turn around and return to Charlotte.  They turned around and descended to FL340.  After discussions with their dispatch, they decided to divert to KJFK instead.  They still had quite a bit of fuel onboard and had to first burn off some fuel before they could land.  They entered a hold near Atlantic City, New Jersey for about three hours and then landed safely at KJFK.
