Interesting to note that the pilots had to be alerted to a smoking engine.

"DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas-bound American Airlines flight from Tulsa, turned around and made an emergency landing after hitting a bird.
AA flight 1491 had 182 passengers and 7 crew members on board, when it departed at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The plane hit the bird shortly after takeoff and immediately returned to Tulsa’s airport."
