A380 take-off from Sydney to LAX with atc
« on: January 31, 2009, 10:15:11 PM »
I am amazed how much more the A380 reminds me of heavy-duty military cargo transport than a pax plane.  Full of fuel and pax, you can see why the wings have to be so massive to get it in the air at such weight and speed (the speed may look slow because of size, but I have heard it can fly at 90 knots).

And a nice fly-by and wave by the A380 (not ATC I know moderator, sorry in advance).  I thought I would share.

Interesting ATC "super-heavy" phraseology plus taxiing car escorts filmed from trailer car departing LAX.  I have read wing span requires special procedures for taxiing at LAX, and possibility of tarmac aircraft exit if A380 flies more frequencies and at peak hours.

They have to shut down airports when the plane comes in.

Airbus was completely kidding themselves when they built the thing.

I have a feeling they will end up in the scrap yard eventually.

Steel, where are you getting that info about shutting down airports for them to come in? They may require a little more room in the air for wake turbulence, and a little bit bigger gate areas at the airports, but the airports that they service can accomodate them now, and the wake turbulence standards have been set, so I think you may be mistaken...
