Precise reason for the diversion unclear at present.
Breaking Flight News initial tweet was simply that #UA123 from Chicago to Pittsburgh had declared an emergency and was diverting to Detroit. In an update the reason for the diversion was given as technical issues due to severe turbulence. However ATC appears to to casts doubts on this and may suggest that at least one person had been injured in the cabin.
