Title: New York Center / TRACON
Post by: ishtar on March 02, 2010, 01:29:11 PM
Anyone have maps for either of these? For the center, I'm mostly interested in area A and sector 66.

In addition, what's the procedure for aircraft arriving JFK over CAMRN? Where does the handoff between the center and tracon take place? At what altitude? Is it any different if landing on different runways (4L/R)?

Start here:  http://www.nyartcc.org/sops

Some of the information is customized for VATSIM operations, but a lot of it is real-world.

Bob,

I had seen that before, but just came across a document that I must have missed. It says:

Quote
Arriving New York Airports
Traffic arriving to New York Mainland will be routed as follows:
KJFK area: via OWENZ direct CAMRN. Cross OWENZ at/below FL220
and issue instruction to cross CAMRN at 11000 / 250 KIAS for Landing
31’s and 22’s and CAMRN at/maintain 9000 for Landing 13’s and 4’s.
Handoff to New York Center 20 nm prior to OWENZ.

Do you know if this is a VATSIM thing or is this real world too?

Similar, in the real world its,

ZWY will,
Quote
Clear arrival aircraft via OWENZ..CAMRN to cross OWENZ (or 40NM southeast of CAMRN if cleared direct CAMRN) at 140.

The aircraft will then be descend to cross CAMRN at 11,000 or 9,000 by ZNY based on runway configuration.

Also, Manta (Sector 66) has control for descent 20 miles east of OWENZ from Sector 86 on all metro New York, WRI/SATs, ACY and PNE arrival aircraft.

FYI, Manta (66) is in Area E not Area A.

Thanks!

Yup. The Area A question is for something else.  :-)

Manta (66) always gives the tracon CAMRN at 9, sector 68 handles another CAMRN flow and puts them at 11, which lays on top of 66.  MANTA only owns up to 10 over CAMRN.
